Touch a Monkey's Heart Foundations name will officially be The South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance from August 2012.  This name change was brought on by the fact that our organisation no longer ONLy cares for primates.  In 2005 we introduced birds, and during 2012 we bought over an apex cat sanctuary named Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary.  The original name TAMHF was just not suited anylonger - hence our new name SAASA

"i'm 74 And I'm Tired"

This should be required reading for every man, woman and child.

I'm 74. Except for brief period in the 50's when I was doing my National Service, I've worked hard since I was 17. Except for some serious health challenges, I put in 50-hour weeks, and didn't call in sick in nearly 40 years. I made a reasonable salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, it looks as though retirement was a bad idea, and I'm tired. Very tired.

Colonel Avi Sivan, a former Israeli army commander whose passion for wildlife led him to serve as director of the Ape Action Africa (AAA) sanctuary in Cameroon, was killed in a helicopter crash on November 23 while flying between the main cities of Douala and Yaoundé.

Deforestation

The world forests are under enormous pressures. In Europe they suffer from air pollution and acid rain, in South east Asia and Central Afica, trees are being felled at an alarming rate, in South America, rich rain forest is flooded by dams or turned into cattle ranches. The world's demands on forests are vast, absolutely unprecedented, and accelerating very rapidly. Tropical forests of the developing world are the most affected with the a net loss of some 250 million hectares between 1980 and 2000 and a current destruction rate of about 16 million hectares a year- an area the size of England and Wales combined.
