Upper Paleolithic

The Upper Paleolithic (or Upper Palaeolithic, and also in some contexts Late Stone Age) is the third and last subdivision of the Paleolithic or Old Stone Age as it is understood in Europe, Africa and Asia. Very broadly, it dates to between 40,000 and 10,000 years ago, roughly coinciding with the appearance of behavioral modernity and before the advent of agriculture. The terms "Late Stone Age" and "Upper Paleolithic" refer to the same periods. For historical reasons, "Stone Age" usually refers to the period in Africa, whereas "Upper Paleolithic" is generally used when referring to the period in Europe.

Understory

The understory of a rainforest is a dark, cool environment under the leaves in the trees (the canopy) of a forest, but over the ground.

Uakari

The uakari is a New World monkey that lives in rainforests and swamp forests in South America. These omnivorous (eating both plants and animals) monkeys have powerful jaws and teeth - they can break Brazil nut shells with their teeth. These relatively quiet arboreal (tree-dwelling) monkeys have a bald face and a short tail (less than 1/3 of the head and body length - this is unusual for arboreal monkeys). They normally weigh between 3 - 4 kilograms - females are slightly bigger than males. They often travel in troops of 30 to 50 monkeys. Classification: Class Mamalia (mammals), order Primates, Family Cebidae (Cebid Monkeys, have nails of fingers and toes), Subfamily Pitheciinae (uakaris and sakis), genus Cacajao (uakari). There are two species of uakari, including the red uakari (Cacajao calvus, also called the bald or white uakari) and the black uakari (Cacajao melanocephalus, also called the black-headed uakari).

Underbush

Underbrush consists of the small trees, shrubs, herbs, and other small plants that grow under the tall trees in a forest .

Understory

the lowest forest level which covers the area between the ground and 10 meters (33 feet)
