Candlewood Cottage

Candlewood Cottage (a non-smoking Cottage) sleeping two only and set in splendid isolation on the plot next door to the Armagh Country Lodge has been a dream waiting to happen for Johan and Marion.

This is the absolute ultimate in privacy and peace offering the tranquillity and stillness most of us crave and really need to soothe our souls.

The ability to sit still in silence and absorb the very quietude of the setting is what is on offer here.

The Cottage will be available from 15 November 2008 and already the Bookings are flowing in.

It is designed in such a way that it capitalizes on the views of the fynbos, forest, and the Tsitsikamma Mountain range.

The deck is extra wide so that one can sling that hammock and enjoy the bird song while reading that long postponed novel purchased aeons ago for just this very moment.

Inside the Cottage we have installed a wide screen T V, DVD/CD player with surround sound; there is a log fireplace for those cooler days and Aircon for the heat - although double insulation will ensure comfort all year round. Squishy armchairs face the fire for those days and nights when one just cannot move! A well-stocked fridge with cool drinks and a selection of wines - red, white and bubblies is part of the mini-kitchen (as we are fully licensed it is appreciated that only our drinks be consumed on the premises).

The bed is an extra length king-sized, firm but comfy, zone, dressed in the very finest percale linen enveloping the lightest pure duck down duvets. Lying in bed the full vista of fynbos, forest and mountains is spread in front of ones eyes as the French doors are situated straight opposite the bed! And we haven’t mentioned the pure unpolluted air inducing bygone deep baby day sleeps!!

The dressing room is spacious enough to take care of the contents of any suitcase; the bathroom has a walk in shower, a bath built for two designed so that one can laze and gaze out with double doors flung wide - and perhaps (definitely) even that glass of bubbly in hand!

A continental Breakfast can be spirited onto one’s deck or a full English (Irish!) Breakfast can be enjoyed at the Armagh a mere stroll away past the salt-water swimming Pool. Dinner a’ la Carte style in Rafters @ the Armagh will take care of the evening.

Straight opposite the Candlewood Cottage is the Fynbos Reserve where one can take a 30-minute stroll inhaling the wonderful aromas of many diverse plants – some quite rare.

The new Tsitskamma Mountain Spa will further enhance your well-being and you can return to the fray a calm and restored person ready again for the cut and thrust of working life.

The lodge is 7 km from Oudtshoorn and 48 km from George and the George Airport.

A unique feature of Chandelier is our luxury, en-suite, tented chalet accommodation. The tented chalets offer a unique bush experience – quality is in the detail. The chalets are placed on wooden decks in the bush and great care has been taken to assure privacy and spectacular views at the private waterhole. Each tented chalet is equipped with linen and velvet, a mini-bar, coffee/tee facilities, fan or a/c, heaters, heated blankets for the winter and an outdoor shower. These are B&B.

Chandelier has a lovely ostrich show farm which offers a famous tour of the biggest birds in the world. With the tour ostrich riding and a visit to our curioshop is included.

End your day with us with our much sought after Sundowner Bush Dinner. Start with a late afternoon game drive to our bush lapa where you are welcomed with sundowners and snacks. Enjoy the sunset in true Klein Karoo atmosphere as we prepare a tradional african three course meal on the fire. Enjoy coffee/tea afterwards with a South African desert, and as we switch off the lights, enjoy the guided star gazing of the brilliant stars of the Klein Karoo. We end the special night with a spotlight nightdrive back to the main lodge.

Chartfield Guesthouse At Kalk Bay Harbour

Chartfield Guesthouse evokes the spirit of a time when everything was done with a little more style and with a lot more attention to detail. It's a haven created to whisk you away from the cares of the world the moment you step inside this grand old house, which has been standing for over 120 years overlooking the picturesque Kalk Bay harbour.

This family owned guesthouse is committed to minimizing its waste footprint and have set measures in place to recycle paper and glass, which supports a local recycling company, in turn contributing to job creation. In order to reduce plastics, they have switched from a bottled water system to a filtered water fountain and provide glass bottles in the rooms that can be re-filled free of charge at the bar. They now also have a heat pump (instead of a geyser) to minimize energy consumption. In addition, by enlisting the cooperation of their guests, they ensure that all electrical appliances are turned off and not left on standby when not in use and have converted to energy efficient light bulbs.

Chartfield Guesthouse employs previously disadvantaged persons and provides training for them to become qualified in every aspect. Chartfield has increased its impact in the local community by buying all of its fresh produce locally as well as making use of suppliers in the immediate area. They also refer their guests to the local shops, restaurants and spas in order to generate as much buying power for the area as possible.

In the words of Florian Blochliger, Owner of Chartfield Guesthouse “It is absolutely wonderful to be associated with Fair Trade in Tourism and the concepts that they encourage. We are honored to say that we know we are on the right path and happy to let our guests know that we are doing our best to offer the most responsible and ethical experience possible”
