Gamtoos Tourism

Gamtoos Tourism promotes the towns of Loerie, Hankey, Patensie and Baviaanskloof.  The Gamtoos Valley is a vibrant mix of nature, agriculture and cultural influences with plenty to see and explore along this diverse route.  Citrus fruit grown, is the main form of export and other crops include potatoes, vegetables, tobacco and even avocados.  Hankey, the oldest town in the valley is home to the largest Sun Dial in Africa as well as the final rest place of Sarah Bartmann.  Golfers will also be keen to putt on the well-kept greens of the 9-hole Hankey Golf Course.  Patensie is the last stop before entering the Baviaanskloof Wilderness area.  Gamtoos Valley has become a very popular tourist destination with many B&B's and self-catering establishments, as well as fuel-stops, banks and shops to choose from.  Visitors can visit the impressive Kouga Dam built in 1967 - the first double-arched dam engineered in South Africa.  The valley boasts a warm, pleasant climate all year round and it is free of tropical diseases, such as malaria. Garden Route - Eden Adventures

Eden Adventures, based in the Wilderness section of the Garden Route National Park, specialises in outdoor adventure tours, especially canoeing, kloofing and abseiling, as well as teambuilding activities and tailormade tours of the Garden Route. For those who would like to explore the area in their own time, Eden Adventures has an affordable range of canoes for hire. In the Wilderness, the unique river system of the Wilderness National Park is fantastic for placid water canoeing. The most popular route is to pack a picnic and some swimming gear and head to the Touw River Waterfall. After about 40 minutes of canoeing and 40 minutes of walking on a stunning new boardwalk you will reach the waterfall. Relax, swim, picnic and return via the same way. Also in the Wilderness one can find an amazing abseil next to the Swart River Waterfall. What makes this sight special is that you land in a canoe at the bottom! And in summer there is the Cappuccino Canyon Kloofing Tour. The deep pools with towering cliffs offer spectacular scenery and an amazing introduction to kloofing. Eden Adventures has become one of the leading teambuilding service providers on the Garden Route. We have a wide range of tried and tested teambuilding activities .

Garden Route Golf Passport

The Garden Route Golf Passport is an intriguing way of getting your golfing fix through pre-paid packages that offer a good variety of courses and great green fees. Originally launched in 2008 as a value-for-money golf offering during the quiet winter months - when courses are in pristine condition and the Garden Route weather is still beautiful. Local and international golf enthusiasts realised they were getting access to nine top golf courses on the famous Garden Route at a fraction of the fee. The concept grew so popular that the obvious next step was the launch of Summer Golf Passports.

The Garden Route has always been a popular golfing destination with world-class courses in Mossel Bay, George, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. Nine courses have been selected from these areas to bring golfers a variety of Golf Passports on courses including; George Golf Club, Kingswood Golf Estate, Mossel Bay Golf Club, Pezula Golf Estate, Plettenberg Bay Country Club, Goose Valley Golf Club, Simola Golf Estate, Pinnacle Point Golf Resort and Oubaai Golf Estate.

The one thing they all have in common is staggering views over ocean, lagoons, rivers and mountains. Mossel Bay for example is famed for having a view of the Indian Ocean from every tee and each hole at Simola has broad vistas across the Knysna Lagoon or Knysna River. Pezula rates among the best and most scenic golf courses in the world, while Ernie Els states that Oubaai is one of his all-time favourite courses (it is designed by him).

There isn’t a single course on the Garden Route Golf Passport that can keep you from looking up and admiring the landscape. There are other notable features too; like, exceptional birdlife (including the colourful Knysna Lourie) at Plettenberg Bay Country Club, springbok grazing on the course at Mossel Bay, wind-free fairways at Simola and a great atmosphere in the bar at George Golf Course - giving it a reputation as the most popular watering hole. Friendliness and the quality of courses are often noted by passport golfers.

Passport holders score on price and availability too, with a round of golf at each of the participating courses, a hassle free booking service and expert advice on where to stay and what to do in the area from the tour operating arm of operator Forty-Two.

Spouses need not be excluded as there is an array of things to do and places to see along the Garden Route and professional consultants on hand with advice on accommodation, car hire and non-golf activities like spa and wellness treats.

A Garden Route Golf Passport doesn’t just make an excellent gift for the golfer, it can be a real treat for the partner too.
